The Sleeping Beauty IGP Yohuno Must Wake Up from his Beauty Sleep! – Dr. Asante Yeboah Fumes

A former National Deputy Communications Director of the opposition NPP has scolded IGP Christian Tetteh Yohonu over recent arrest of NPP officers and activists without justifiable cause.

In an article released on 10 September 2025, the respected NPP stalwart posited that, “The sleeping Beauty IGP Yohonu must wake up from his beauty sleep.”The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno must wake up from his “beauty sleep” and confront the terrible security situation currently plaguing the nation.Instead of majoring in the minors and pussyfooting about, the IGP must urgently address the unprecedented breakdown in security across the country. This frightening reality cannot be wished away by arresting critics of your bad leadership and of the current NDC administration.

According to NADMO reports, 48,000 Ghanaians have been displaced, while 14,000 have fled as refugees into Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. Where was the lousy IGP when our compatriots in the north were driven from their homes into refugee camps in Cote d’lvoire?Where was the lazy IGP when Ghana dropped in the UN Peace Index due to persistent tribal conflicts and killings ravaging communities across the north, south, east, and west?Instead of tackling these grave issues, the IGP appears focused on political theater — chasing misdemeanors and arresting political opponents who simply criticize the government and his abysmal record, seemingly to build a political résumé that might ostensibly convince President Mahama to extend his contract. Meanwhile, criminal gangs and armed groups continue to slaughter innocent Ghanaians across the country.

Why is free speech being criminalized? While riffraffs like Kelvin Taylor and other NDC operatives are allowed to insult, abuse, criticize and attack chiefs, religious leaders, businessmen, tribes, former presidents, and well-meaning Ghanaians without consequence — yet critics of the IGP’s administration are harassed with arrests and outrageous bail conditions.Reports from Côte d’Ivoire indicate that more than 12,000 of the 14,000 Ghanaian refugees there are vulnerable women and children — left without support — while IGP Yohuno “busily chases the whirlwind” over trivial political matters.

Former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, when once asked about his greatest fear, remarked: “My biggest fear is not getting a worthy replacement after my exit as IGP.” Sadly, Dr. Dampare’s words appear prophetic, as though he was a clairvoyant.

Never in Ghana’s history has the nation witnessed such gross incompetence and abuse of power from the leadership of the Police Service. The chaotic state of security today is frightening and alarming. Ghanaians are being killed daily, yet the police administration diverts its energy into pursuing journalists, tiktokers and political commentators like Sir Obama, Abronye and Nfante Comedy over infantile matters. What happened to the NDC officials who threatened the Minority Leader and NPP leadership in Akwatia under the watch of 5,000 police officers? What became of the case where NDC’s Sofo Azorka and his bodyguard assaulted the NPP Vice Chair in full view of the media? What is the status of the Galamsey fight? This existential threat has placed our water bodies and forests under serious attack, simply to satisfy the pockets of a few greedy bastards, as former President Rawlings so aptly put it.No amount of intimidation through unnecessary arrests and draconian bail conditions will stop Ghanaians from criticizing this IGP’s failed administration.

Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, whether today, tomorrow, or after your retirement, you will account for your stewardship as IGP. And you can be certain that the New Patriotic Party will hold you to it.
