TEWU Declares Nationwide Indefinite Strike Starting September 19 Over Service Conditions

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) affiliate, Teacher Education Workers Union (TEWU), has declared a nationwide indefinite strike set to begin on September 19, 2025. This industrial action is in response to unresolved issues concerning conditions of service, promotions, and allowances for its members.

The union’s demands stem from ongoing dissatisfaction with how these critical employment matters have been handled, prompting the decision to suspend work indefinitely until satisfactory resolutions are reached.

The strike is expected to affect educational institutions across the country, as TEWU members, who play a vital role in the education sector, take part in the protest to press for their rights.

Stakeholders are urged to engage with TEWU representatives to find mutually agreeable solutions to prevent disruption in the educational system. The strike announcement was confirmed on September 18, 2025, signaling a critical juncture for dialogue between the government and the union to address longstanding grievances
